Merlin was my sweet-pea, he was like my child...with an cattitude. LOL.

When I think of him now the first things that come to mind are his idiosyncrasies such as walking through the house and opening every door he could possibly open, including cabinet doors. He hated closed doors. Also, the way he would jump on the bed and make a chirping sound as if to say, "Are you awake? or Good Morning!"

I have especially fond memories of him waking me up in the middle of the night by placing his paw gently against my face and pushing harder and harder until I woke up. I'd open my eyes to look at him and he'd be sitting there with his toy mouse in his mouth, ready to play at 3:00 AM.

Most of all, I miss him greeting me when I come home from work. Everyday, I remember something else to miss.

I love you Merlin, and you will always live in my heart little guy.

Poem:

The Little Shadow Upon My Bed

What is this little shadow upon my bed
Pushing and nudging me out of my sleep?
I look over my shoulder and what do I see?
A fuzzy black thing stretched full length.

I gently nudge with my toe
This shadow I am not sure I know.
There is no response which leads me to believe
It must me my imagination...this thing I perceive.

Again I doze reassured by my conclusion
When once again I feel this intrusion.
What ever could it be...
This thing that persist in waking me?

Determined to confront this nemesis of sleep
I twist and turn till I am staring at its feet!
Clearly the wrong end for confrontation,
I flip and flop till I am laying on my side
And now I am looking it straight in the eye!

Why! It's Merlin who's stolen my berth!
Will I let him sleep undisturbed...
Or shall I shove him off and reclaim instead?
Then I look at that nose which twitches so...
And I kiss the little shadow head to toe.

Cat - By (Mary Britton Miller)

The black cat yawns,
Opens his jaws,
Stretches his legs
And shows his claws.

Then he gets up
And stands on four
Long still legs,
And yawns some more.

he shows his sharp teeth,
he stretches his lip,
Her slice of a tongue
Turns up at the tip.

Lifting himself
On his delicate toes,
he arches his back
As high as it goes.

he lets himself down
With particular care,
And pads away
With his tail in the air.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

For Merlin, xxx.

end Me A Kitten ~

I will lend to you for a while
a kitten, God said.
For you to love while she lives,
and mourn when she's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three
But will you, 'till I call her back,
take care of her for me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you
and should her stay be brief,
you'll always have her memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below
I want this kitten to learn.

I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowds life's land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give her all your love,
nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take
my kitten home again?

And my heart replied,
"My Lord, Thy Will Be Done."
For all the joys this kitten brings,
the risk of grief I'll run.
I'll shelter her with tenderness,
I'll love her while I may
And for the happiness that I've known,
forever grateful stay.

But should you call her back
much sooner than I planned,
I'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.
If by my love I've managed
your wishes to achieve,
in memory of her sweet sweet love,
please help me while I grieve.

When my cherished kitten
departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul
for me to love all her life.
